Sufism
for Kids
"Children are the perfume of heaven."
(Prophet Mohammed)
IAS
Children's Department, organized in 1997, holds regular
gatherings for children in the California Bay Area on a
bimonthly basis - the first Sunday of every other month.
Children of all ages of parents from all over the world
attend the gatherings.
At
the gatherings, children are given an opportunity to practice
prayer and meditation and learn about Sufi knowledge. The
teaching program for the children includes art, music, and
appreciation for the wondrous world around them. We even
do field trips!
Active
participation from parents is greatly encouraged and welcomed.
The IAS believes in the importance of the parent as the
key role model and teacher for the child. This philosophy
is central to this Department's programs.

Unveiling
Islam Series for Children
Building Bridges of Understanding
The
value of humanity must be understood so that morality and
true human civilization can be honored. Truth is universal
and belongs to no one nation or culture, but to all of humanity.
(Unveiling Islam)
It
is in this spirit that the ISS has launched the "Unveiling
Islam" series, where Muslims from different perspectives
will lead a workshop for interested schools, congregations,
or organizations. The goal of the series is to demystify
Islam and workshops can be organized within and outside
of the United States. Sufi Kids has organized a workshop
for children to introduce them to the world of Islam.
This
series has been succesfully presented at a number of schools
thus far, including: Lu Sutton Elementary School (Novato),
Marin Horizon School (Mill Valley), Sir Francis Drake High
School (San Anselmo), and The Tamalpais (Greenbrae).
If
you are interested in bringing Muslims from different perspectives
to speak to your school, please contact Safa
Ali Michael Newman at sufi-kids@ias.org
or at 415.382.SUFI.
