Program Description
This year’s Beyond Identifications program focuses on the treatment of trauma grounded in a heart-centered approach. The heart has been recognized as a center of awareness in many spiritual traditions since ancient times. Recently, the fields of psychotherapy and neuroscience have begun to recognize it relevance, both from biological and experiential perspectives.
There is much to still to be learned about the role of the heart in promoting human development and healing. The presenters at this event are all experts in their fields and represent a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches and spiritual disciplines. This program offers the opportunity to increase our understanding and awareness of how focus on the heart can remove impediments and increase the possibility of realizing our full human potential.
Educational Goals
The overarching goal of this program is to support clinician’s effectiveness in working by bringing awareness to the role of the heart in treatment of trauma. It is hoped that participants will leave with both a better understanding of the research that suggests the heart’s function in self-regulation, as well as the clinical benefit of obtaining optimal therapist states through an active engagement of awareness with the clinician’s own heart.
What you will learn
- An overview of approaches to psychotherapy that are grounded in the spiritual underpinnings of heart-centered approaches.
- A psychological understanding of psychotherapy practice grounded in a heart-centered approach.
- The concept of the role of the heart in promoting human development and healing.
- Awareness on heart for self-regulation, realization, meditative inquiry and the doorway to divine as integral to psychotherapy practice.
- The role of forgiveness in healing trauma.
- The role of heart-based awareness in healing trauma.
