International Association of Sufism Annual Inspiration Dinner

The Annual Inspiration Dinner is an evening devoted to bringing together our Bay Area community to celebrate the unique vision and important accomplishments of an individual who is dear to the people of the Bay Area and part of our heritage.

For the past 14 years Dr. Sweeney has been the director of the primary Marin County provider of shelter and support services for homeless families and adults, offering 14 inter-related programs including job training. Under her leadership Homeward Bound has developed the New Beginnings Center and the Next Key Center at Hamilton and is now developing Oma’s Village family housing. Dr. Sweeney was awarded the Heart of Marin Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership in 2005.

The International Association of Sufism will present its Humanitarian Award to Dr. Mary Kay Sweeney, Executive Director of Homeward Bound, at the Inspiration Dinner on October 25, 2014. The dinner, which is open to the public, will be held 7:00 pm at The Club at McInnis Park in San Rafael. The award is presented each year to an outstanding individual for contributions in elevating the level of humanity in our society.


Unfortunately, registration for the 2014 annual dinner is closed.

Past honorees have included religious studies luminary, Huston Smith; best-selling Pakistani-American novelist, Nafisa Haji; Director of the United Religions Initiative, The Reverend Canon Charles Gibbs; Dominican University Humanities Department Chairman, Harlan Stelmach; renowned cosmologist and film-maker, Brian Swimme and internationally acclaimed theologian, Matthew Fox.
